Spectacle Exhibitions: A Journey of Creativity and Impact
The inaugural Spectacle Art & Design Exhibition in 2013 attracted an impressive 5,000 visitors, setting the stage for an initiative that has since opened significant opportunities for Bachelor of Arts graduates to make a positive impact in their communities.
Like previous years, this vibrant and large-scale exhibition continues to serve as a platform for Bachelor of Arts students from UBD’s Art and Creative Technology (ACT) programme to showcase their creative talents. Organized by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the annual graduation exhibition emphasizes the innovative spirit and artistic accomplishments of ACT students, providing them with an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Brunei’s emerging creative industries.
This year’s showcase will feature 33 final-year students and will take place at the Chancellor Hall Art Gallery in April. The graduates will present their capstone projects—bold expressions of contemporary art and design that reflect their unique perspectives while addressing current societal themes.
Spectacle exhibitions have consistently illustrated how art and design can bridge generational concerns and inspire dialogue through compelling visual narratives. Many students have also delved into the practical and decorative potential of their work, creating pieces that align with Brunei’s expanding creative economy.
Beyond Spectacle 2019: Art and Design Graduation Show continues this legacy by offering a diverse array of high-caliber projects. These exhibitions are crafted not only to display the artistic talents of ACT students but also to inspire the audience to embrace aesthetics, culture, and environmental awareness. The students’ work embodies the belief that creativity can transform dreams into reality, fostering a brighter and more sustainable future.
UBD’s GenNext 1.0 ACT programme, with its interdisciplinary focus on art, design, and communication, cultivates versatile creatives who are shaping Brunei’s cultural landscape and paving the way for its future creative industries.
